Welcome to the new era of Technology Leadership!

 

Hi - I'm Steve and I'm the creator of the Leadership 3.0 framework. I've devoted my working life to helping organisations achieve success through the strategic use of technology.

I'm an experienced technologist and people leader in this exponentially-growing field. Having navigated many personal and team successes and failures over my 20-year career, I decided to share what I've learned with as many technology leaders as I could.  So, I distilled my experience into a simple-to-use framework, gave it a name and setup the my consultancy practice and website.

Isn't Tech Leadership really just Leadership?

​

Being a technology leader is no different to any other leader of people - it's always about the people first.  What I've found, though, is that tech leaders tend to be incentivised to focus their energies not on their people, but on the technology they're managing... "deliver X technology by Y date, on time and on budget"... or "reduce application downtime by Z%".

​

Great targets for sure, but in my experience, there's zero emphasis (at least, in the form of objectives and targets) on the human aspects of running a tech team.  Ultimately, this can lead to disengaged people whilst the business expects the technology team to be thought leaders, fully engaged and drive the innovation that will keep the business ahead of the competition.  Without an engaged tech team, this is just a pipedream.

In essence, it is this indifference toward the people within the tech function that I think makes the tech leader's role a different challenge to that of a non-tech leader.

​
